Big Sit! this weekend
This weekend is the annual Big Sit!, founded by the New Haven Bird Club back in 1992. A fun and unique tradition, the idea is that you and your friends count birds from a 17-foot diameter circle on either Saturday or Sunday. There are no real stakes. These events are usually as social as they are serious, though folks sometimes do their own solo Big Sit in their backyards. You can count for as long or as short as you want, and birders are welcome to come and go throughout the day. It's very casual, though some of us do make quite an effort.
